Sagra della Rocciata Festival

Sagra · July 31, 2026 – August 9, 2026 · San Giovanni Profiamma (PG)

Join us for the 32nd edition of the famous Sagra della Rocciata in San Giovanni Profiamma, immediately followed by the Sagra degli Gnocchi fatti a mano (handmade gnocchi festival). Rocciata is an ancient dessert, likely dating back to the earliest Umbrian settlements. The "Eugubine Tablets" even mention a food, probably similar to rocciata, used in sacred rituals: the "tensendo," a sweet dedicated to the god Hondo Cerfio, an ancient Umbrian deity. Due to rocciata's resemblance to strudel, some theories suggest connections to the Lombards, who had a state in this very area, specifically Nocera Umbra, during the Early Middle Ages.

🍽️ Food & Menu

Indulge in a wide array of traditional Umbrian dishes! Start with a variety of bruschetta, from classic garlic and oil to mushroom, onion, and tomato. Enjoy fresh salads and crispy roasted or fried potatoes. For a true local experience, try 'cresce' flatbreads filled with sausage, prosciutto, or vegetables. Our pasta selection features homemade gnocchi with Sagrantino wine sauce or rich goose ragu, pappardelle with wild boar ragu, and tagliolini with truffle. Main courses include grilled lamb, pork steak, and roasted goose with potatoes. Don't miss the unique local specialties like 'lumache in guazzetto' (snails in sauce) and 'arrosticini di pecora' (lamb skewers). And of course, save room for the star of the show: the ancient and delicious Rocciata dessert!
