Experience the Palio di Taranto, a historic rowing regatta held twice a year on May 8th and July 12th. Ten districts of Taranto compete in the Navigable Canal, finishing at the Ponte Girevole. This event is deeply rooted in medieval maritime traditions and devotion to San Cataldo, the city's patron saint. It features a historical parade that evokes the ancient Magna Grecia, attracting thousands of visitors annually.
Join us for the Palio di Taranto! The festivities kick off on Monday, May 4th, 2026, at 11:00 AM with a press conference at Castello Aragonese. On Wednesday, May 6th, 2026, at 6:00 PM, there will be a blessing of the oars and a religious service, also at Castello Aragonese. The first round of the Palio dei Rioni takes place on Friday, May 8th, 2026: athletes gather at Palazzo di Città at 5:00 PM, followed by a historical procession to Duomo di San Cataldo at 5:30 PM. A blessing of the athletes will be held at Duomo di San Cataldo at 6:00 PM, with boat inspections and launching into the sea. The race begins at 7:00 PM, circling the old city, and an awards ceremony will be held at Piazza Castello at 8:00 PM. The second round of the Palio dei Rioni is on Friday, July 12th, 2026, preceded by a press conference on Thursday, July 9th, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Palazzo di Città. On race day, crews gather at 6:00 PM, with the Alzaremo ceremony in the navigable canal at 6:30 PM.
