The 56th Palio delle Contrade celebrates the patron saints San Bartolomeo Apostolo and Santa Calepodia with a traditional August festival in Canale Monterano. Experience a historical parade with approximately 200 participants in medieval costumes, including flag-wavers, drummers, knights, and musicians. This is followed by an exciting race between the six city districts, where teams carry 45 kg (about 100 lbs) bigonzi (grape-harvesting vats) over a 135-meter (about 440 ft) course. Admission to all events is free.
