Step back in time for three continuous days as the people of the ancient village, castle, and surrounding fertile lands of the proud Castrum Podii Medii challenge each other in games and run the taverns with the blessed tankard of Madonna Filomena, all to comfort empty stomachs and parched throats. This is the promise of Castrum Podii Medii – Poggio di Mezzo in its old name – which from July 17th to 19th, 2026, will open its gates to over ten thousand visitors. For three days, the Castle of Poggio di Otricoli will journey back in time, bringing medieval atmospheres and traditions to life in all their vibrancy. Visitors, after exchanging today's 'vile money' for coins minted specifically for the occasion, will immerse themselves in a world of ladies and knights, musicians and merchants, travelers and performers. Everywhere, artists, artisans, jesters, dancers, and picturesque characters will welcome the public amidst scenes of medieval life, games, taverns, and itinerant shows. Until late into the night, the Giornate Medievali will unfold along the streets, in small squares, on tiny terraces, and in cellars, offering an authentic glimpse into a distant era. The encounter with the life and trades of yesteryear will be enriched by a culinary journey dedicated to 'comforting empty stomachs and parched throats.' In the most evocative spots of the village, visitors will find gnocchi, arrosticini (grilled meat skewers), roasted sausages, mixed fried delights, pongari (traditional local savory pastries filled with vegetables), fried pizza, and desserts. Ovens will work late into the night, baking an unforgettable focaccia. The Birreria dei Frati and Hostaria di Filomena will quench thirsty throats, while the Hostaria delle Corbacchiole will always be ready to welcome lost souls and 'bottomless pits' seeking refreshment.
