Every first weekend of September, Borgonovo Val Tidone (Piacenza) celebrates the Festa d’la Chisöla, now in its 60th edition. This festival honors the Chisöla, a local specialty with a Municipal Denomination of Origin. This humble, traditional peasant food is made from a simple dough of water and flour, enriched with ciccioli – crispy pork cracklings. Legend has it that Chisöla was offered to Barbarossa's army in 1155 as they passed through the lands where Borgonovo Val Tidone would later be founded. During the festival, the village comes alive with food stands offering traditional dishes and the delightful pairing of chisöla with Ortrugo, a white wine typical of the Piacenza hills.
