Festival · September 25, 2026 – September 27, 2026 · Borno (BS)
A three-day festival in Borno, in the mountain province of Brescia, that celebrates transumanza — the ancient seasonal movement of flocks to high Alpine pastures — together with the culture of mountain farming. The program includes folk music performances, hands-on workshops for kids, a mushroom exhibition, a cheese competition, the blessing of the animals, and the great Transumanza parade. Traditional mountain food, a farmers' market and a dedicated food area are all part of the celebration.
At the food area, you can taste the real flavors of alpine life: hearty dishes born from old farming traditions, a selection of Transumanza cheeses, Silter DOP — a protected mountain cheese made in the area — and porcini mushrooms served in classic local ways. It is a tribute to the food culture tied to the summer pastures and the return of the herds.
The festival opens on Friday, September 25th at 6:00 PM with the inauguration of the monumental installation 'Elogio alla lentezza' at Villa Guidetti. At 8:30 PM there is the presentation 'Orme di Transumanza' in the Sala Congressi, followed at 9:45 PM by a communal street dinner through the village and at 10:30 PM by a DJ set with Frank Van Janek and Gevo at Pala Pattinaggio. Saturday, September 26th starts at 9:00 AM with the Expo area and the mycological mushroom exhibition in the square, open until 7:00 PM. At 9:30 AM the 1st Transumanza Cheese Competition takes place at the Sala Congressi. From 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM there are educational workshops for kids at Area Dassa, followed at 10:30 AM by the 'Dal latte al formaggio' curd-making session and at 11:30 AM by the blessing of animals and salt. From 2:30 PM to 5:00 PM, visitors can watch demonstrations of Silter DOP cheese marking, sheep shearing, horseshoeing, and wool working. The Italian Speed Carving Championship is at Parco Rizzieri from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, while the sculpture awards and a concert take place at Piazza Echi di Borghi at 9:00 PM. At 10:00 PM, Orchestra Alfalishort leads the dance night at Pala Pattinaggio. Sunday, September 27th opens again with the Expo and mushroom exhibition at 9:00 AM. The winners of the Transumanza Cheese Competition are announced at 9:30 AM, and the Grande Sfilata della Transumanza parade starts at 11:15 AM. In the afternoon, at 3:30 PM, there is the mushroom contest with prizes for the heaviest porcini and the most creative basket, followed at 4:00 PM by the official awards for local farms and at 5:00 PM by the lottery draw.
