A historic reenactment dating back to 1619, the town of Cabras celebrates its legendary defense against the Saracens with a barefoot 7 km run and vibrant processions in traditional costume. On Saturday, the young penitents (Is Curridoris) trek the dusty Sinis trails carrying the wooden statue of San Salvatore, while Sunday features a women’s procession accompanied by the lilting sounds of launeddas and accordions. Expect traditional Sardinian music, hands‑on workshops, food stalls, exhibitions, live shows and fireworks lighting up the night.
📅 Saturday, September 5 2026 – The Corsa degli Scalzi kicks off as the Is Curridoris, dressed in white tunics, run barefoot for 7 km along the Sinis paths, bearing the wooden statue of San Salvatore from the trailhead to the Church of San Salvatore in the village of Muristenes. 📅 Sunday, September 6 2026 – A festive procession winds through Cabras with women in traditional Cabras attire, the music of launeddas and accordions filling the air. At dusk the statue is returned to Santa Maria Church in Cabras. 🎵 Throughout the weekend: traditional Sardinian music, interactive workshops, food stalls, art exhibitions, live performances and a fireworks display. 🎊 Additional traditional rites take place during the week leading up to the main events.
